School’s out and the kids are at home! It can be great to have more time to spend with the kids, but when we shift our focus onto the little ones, we can forget to take care of ourselves. You’re going to need the energy during school holidays! So, follow our tips to keep a happy, healthy you.
Time Management
If you’re a mum, you’re busy by default, so managing your time is integral to ensure you’re your best self while the kids are at home. Organise daily schedules to include dedicated time for work, household chores, activities for the kids and some YOU time. Prioritise certain tasks but break them into management chunks, focusing on one thing at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Consistent Sleep Schedule
Both for your sake, and the sake of the little ones, stick to a consistent sleep schedule. You’ve probably already got a bedtime set for the kids, so set one for yourself too. Allow yourself to go to bed at a time where both you and the kids can get enough rest. Not getting enough sleep is the main culprit for feeling fatigued throughout the day.
Limit Screen Time
This applies to both you and the kids! Set time limits for how long everyone in the household can be on their phones/laptops/tablets for. Excessive screen time, particularly before bedtime, can interfere with sleep quality and keep you up longer. So, for you, try to put your phone down and don’t use it within 30 minutes of going to sleep.
Regular Exercise
Get moving with the kids! It doesn’t have to be high impact. Go for a walk or a bike ride with the kids to get the blood pumping. Regular exercise boosts your mood naturally, and it also tires out your body leading to a better sleep!
