Simply, not true. Spa days have a lot to answer for. They’ve got most of us ladies thinking that’s what self-care is all about.
But if you delve a little deeper, you’ll find there’s more to self-care than a facial you have to take a small loan out for. We’re busting the myths, so you can take self-care back and make it yours.
Myth No. 1
Self-care costs money
If you can hear your bank balance whimpering by the very mention of the “s word”, we’ve got good news for you. There are plenty of self-care options that are free. Walking is self-care. Going to bed early is self-care. Dancing in the kitchen to eighties classics is self-care.
Myth No. 2
Self-care takes time
So you’ve just fired your personal assistant and now you’re wondering how you’ll fit in. Well, even if you don’t have hired help, it’s easier than you think. Enjoying a Lady Shake takes less than 10 minutes. So does, putting on red lipstick for the school run, having a cheeky power nap or squeezing in a sunset stroll around the block.
Myth No. 3
Self-care is something you do on your own
Don’t let the name fool you. You’ll be surprised to know, self-care likes company too. Putting yourself first can be doing a group fitness class, walking with friends or just enjoying a phone call with someone who enjoys chatting as much as you do.
What myths are holding you back from making a self-care a regular thing? Remember you can’t pour from an empty cup. So put yourself first and start shaking.
