Get To Know Your Breasts

Did you know that one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? Women who are mothers, daughters, sisters – shining stars that light up our worlds.
That’s why we’re taking a detour from our usual weight loss chat to talk about being breast aware.
What is breast aware?
Well, you’re probably thinking: ‘Yes, I’m aware they’re there.’ Hard to miss them really, when they’re right in front of us.
However, there’s a bit more to being breast aware; you’re aiming to build up a bank of knowledge around what’s normal for your breasts. How do they normally look? How do they normally feel? How do they normally change depending on what time of the month it is?
You want to be as familiar with your breasts as you are with your latest reality TV obsession.
How do I get to know my breasts?
If it sounds so serious and committed, don’t worry, checking your breasts can be as structured or spontaneous as you like.
What’s important to remember is that checking up on your breasts isn’t replacing an actual breast screening, which is recommended for ladies that reach a certain age or have a medical history to consider.

What am I looking out for?
Any changes that seem out of the ordinary for you. That could be a lump or thickening of the skin. It could be a change of shape or size, including your nipples.
And without wanting to give advice that’s as unhelpful as your mother-in-law organising your hen-do, if you do notice a change, don’t panic. It might not be cancer. The best way to find out is to book an appointment with your doctor.
Why should I regularly check in with my boobs?
Picking up a change early can literally save your life. You’re putting yourself in the best position to take on that battle and survive.
Let’s not forget that early detection can give you more treatment options. And who doesn’t love more options?
